What the tutorials teach

All three tutorials agree the underflip is a shove-it with the back foot used to flip the board from underneath in a heel-flip direction. VLSkate and UNDERFLIPED both stress that toes must hang off the back edge to allow the foot to get under the board. VLSkate and plusONE both recommend an isolated progression: practice the scoop and the flip motion separately before combining. The key split between approaches is VLSkate's anatomical stage-by-stage method versus UNDERFLIPED's 'make yourself weightless / pull knees up' mental model; both lead to the same timing.

  • Toes of the back foot must hang off the heel-side edge of the tail so the foot can get under the board during the rotation
  • Break the trick into two motions first: practice the shove-it scoop alone, then practice the underflip lift alone, before combining them into one fluid motion
  • Make yourself weightless by pulling your knees up rather than hopping hard; this creates the timing window to manipulate the board between your feet
  • Commit to a full back-foot flick; a half-hearted flick lands the board Primo every time

Frequently asked

What should I learn before the Underflip?
The underflip builds on Kickflip. Get that consistent first, since the underflip reuses the same pop, balance, or flick.
Is the Underflip hard to learn?
The underflip is an intermediate trick. It gets much easier once you can already kickflip.
