What the tutorials teach
All three tutorials agree on the fundamentals: the back foot sits in the toe-side pocket with toes hanging off, the front foot does nothing and must get fully clear, and the motion is a full circular scoop (not a pop) that wraps the board around the back foot. VLSkate and Jonny Giger both recommend one-foot drills beside the board as the essential first step before committing to the trick. The biggest point of emphasis across videos is direction: the scoop must go straight forward and up (not sideways), with Jonny Giger being the most explicit that a sideways scoop produces a tray-flip shape instead of a proper impossible. Thunderwood adds the most concrete failure-mode fixes for the two most common landing problems.
- Stand beside the board and practice the full circular back-foot scoop motion with one foot only before ever committing to the full trick; this one drill alone removes the fear of the board hitting your shin
- Scoop straight forward and up, not sideways; a sideways scoop produces a tray-flip shape instead of a wrapped impossible
- Front foot must completely clear the board; put it in an exaggerated kickflip-hang position and lift it out of the way entirely, since this trick is almost entirely a back-foot motion
- It is more scoop than pop; if you find yourself popping like a kickflip the board will not wrap correctly; think of pressing forward into the nose rather than snapping down

Frequently asked

- The impossible builds on Ollie. Get that consistent first, since the impossible reuses the same pop, balance, or flick.
- Is the Impossible hard to learn?
