What the tutorials teach
All three coaches describe the same trick, an ollie with a frontside body rotation that lands you switch, and all three say the ollie must come first as its own complete motion. The most repeated point is timing: SKATE HACKS calls it a late trick that starts around the high point of the ollie, and Tactics names rotating too early as the cause of the board doing an unwanted shove-it. Every video mentions leveling the board out with a small front-foot push before the rotation begins. VLSkate goes deepest on the front foot, insisting it stop in the pocket where the nose curves and hang there rather than flicking off the side, which is what turns the trick into a kickflip sex change. Where they differ slightly is how much shoulder wind-up to use, with VLSkate saying the shoulders should already be opening as you pop while SKATE HACKS holds the rotation until the ollie is finished. Landing advice is the same everywhere: keep your feet above the bolts and look for the bolts, because a back foot that lands too far back on the tail slips off and catches your ankle. The most useful shared drill is practicing the stance switch on flat ground with no board pop at all, so the switcheroo is automatic before you try it in the air.
- Complete the ollie first and start rotating around its high point; turning too early makes the board shove-it instead of staying straight
- Stop the front foot in the pocket where the nose curves rather than flicking it off the side, or you get a kickflip sex change
- Give a small forward or downward push with the front foot to level the board out before the rotation
- Practice the stance switcheroo on flat ground with no ollie until it is automatic, then add the pop
- Land with both feet above the bolts and look for the bolts, so the back foot does not slip off the tail into your ankle
- Have a reliable ollie and comfortable frontside body varials first; the ollie can even be rocketed as long as you clear the ground
